Open Dream Ensemble to Perform
New Play Dream Machines at Dare County Elementary Schools
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (November 30, 2009) – The Open Dream Ensemble, a professional multi-disciplinary children’s theater group, will perform a new original play, Dream Machines: The Impossible Happens, at the Dare County Elementary Schools December 8-11. All elementary school students in Dare County, grades K through 5, will have a chance to see the play. The performances are made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Outer Banks Community Foundation.
Dream Machines: The Impossible Happens tells the amazing story of the advancements in travel at the turn of the 20th century through dance, music and drama. Told through the eyes of the Wright Brothers’ sister Katharine, Dream Machines follows Orville, Wilbur and Katharine as they pursue their dream of flying. The story connects their endeavors with Henry Ford’s dreams of automobiles and Octave Chanute’s fascination with trains and early aviation. Dream Machines is geared to grades K-5.
“Dream Machines focuses on important life lessons including dedication, determination, courage and teamwork,” said Rebecca Nussbaum, general manager of the Open Dream Ensemble. “It also highlights the power of imagination and learning in fun, creative, and engaging ways. Since the Wright Brothers first flight took place in Dare County, we are thrilled to have the chance to share this new production with this community.”
